Glossary

The terms that appear on certificates, product pages, and vial labels, defined plainly.

Lyophilised
Freeze dried. The peptide is supplied as a dry powder, which is far more stable than a solution and does not require cold shipping.
Reconstitution
Dissolving a lyophilised peptide into a liquid, usually bacteriostatic water, to produce a solution of known concentration.
Bacteriostatic water
Sterile water containing a small amount of benzyl alcohol, which inhibits bacterial growth and so allows a reconstituted vial a longer usable life than plain sterile water would.
Certificate of analysis
A document from a testing laboratory reporting what a specific batch contained. Useful only when it names the lot number it applies to.
COA
Short for certificate of analysis.
Lot number
The identifier for one synthesis batch. It is what links a physical vial to the certificate that describes it.
HPLC
High performance liquid chromatography. Separates a sample into components and reports the proportion that is the target peptide, which is the purity figure.
Mass spectrometry
Measures molecular mass to confirm a sample is the compound it claims to be. Purity without identity is an incomplete picture.
Purity
The share of a sample that is the intended peptide, normally by HPLC. Stated per batch, not per product line.
Molecular weight
The mass of one mole of the peptide, in grams per mole. Needed to convert between mass and molar concentration.
Peptide
A short chain of amino acids. Shorter than a protein, and in research supply typically synthesised rather than extracted.
Amino acid sequence
The order of amino acids in the chain, which defines the peptide.
GLP-1 receptor agonist
A compound that activates the glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor. Studied extensively in metabolic research.
Dual agonist
A compound acting on two receptor targets, for example GIP and GLP-1.
Triple agonist
A compound acting on three receptor targets.
Secretagogue
A compound that prompts the secretion of another substance.
GHRH analogue
A synthetic analogue of growth hormone releasing hormone, used as a reference compound in endocrine research.
In vitro
Literally in glass. Research performed outside a living organism, in cell culture or an analytical instrument. This is the only intended use for everything Vantra supplies.
Research use only
The material is intended for laboratory research and is not for human or animal consumption, and is not a therapeutic product.
-20 C
The recommended long term storage temperature for lyophilised research peptides.
Insulin syringe unit
A graduation on a 100 unit insulin syringe. 100 units equals 1 millilitre, so 10 units is 0.1 mL.
Vial
The sealed glass container the peptide is supplied in.
